So Where Is the Red Queen During All This?

Here on the left is a picture of the lovely Alexstrasza, The Aspect of Life and queen of the red dragonflight, in her elven form. Currently it seems she is staring off at...something. What it could be is anyone's guess.

Brooding over the loss of her brother, the aspect of magic, Malygos, to end the Nexus War? Perhaps.

Contemplating the upcoming battle against the Lich King? Could be.

She could even be glancing at Krasus and looking forward to a hot night of red dragon love? You never know. *Bow Chica Bow Wow* ;)

Or, maybe she's thinking forward to the Cataclysm and the return of Deathwing. That's always possible. Nozdormu of the bronze flight is the aspect of time but that doesn't mean that Alexstrasza doesn't have some pretense on things before they happen as well. Kind of like Yoda, only different. Especially when Deathwing is involved. Along with that, maybe she's thinking "WTF Blizzard! How could you leave me out of this!?"

Yes, Alex does have a reason to be a little peeved. I can't think of a single NPC in the entire history of Warcraft who would be more affected by Deathwing's return more than Alexstrasza would be. The two have a loooooong history together, some good mostly all bad. They are the worst of enemies now, Alexstrasza and her red flight now standing in direct opposition to Deathwing and his black flight, life versus destruction. It's epic, people! Not only that, but I believe that Deathwing has always had, and still does, a certain degree of lust for Alexstrasza. He doesn't want to kill her really. His goal is to subjugate the other dragonflights under his will and force the red queen to be one of his consorts. Kind of ick, since they are siblings, but the dude is totally frickin' insane so what can you expect?

Yes, of all the NPC's in WoW, no one should be farther at the frontline to meet Deathwing than Alexstrasza.

Yet, for some reason, she isn't mentioned on Blizzard's "Faces of Cataclysm" page. Let's see, we have Thrall as the very first, followed by Garrosh and then King Douche. After that it's King Greymane. Now, all of these I can understand. They're the leaders of the people who are going to be affected by all this after all. Their roles are going to be super important once the world becomes Deathwing's chew toy.

After that though it's....wut?!?! Queen Azshara!? Where does she play a role in all of this? It was suppose to be her turn in the later expansion! We won't see her fishy face again until after Deathwing has been taken care of, so why list her name now? Stupid, Blizzard! Royally stupid.

And, lo and behold, no Alexstrasza, at least not yet. I find this interesting, that the most important character in the Deathwing homecoming other than Deathwing himself is somehow left out of the picture. It could be that they just haven't thought of what Alex's role is going to be in the story. It is a complicated situation going on here. If I had the choice I would have her leading the neutral faction that is poised against the Twilight Highlands, right against Deathwing's front door. In the fight against Deathwing she should also be involved. She was against Malygos, why not against her greatest rival? In only makes sense.

Blizzard kind of has a bad habit of providing disappointing content as far as lore goes. I still feel bad for the Lich King now and where he stands after being overhyped for ten years. They really messed up with him I think, but that's beside the point. This is about Alexstrasza and her continued feud with Deathwing. Hopefully Blizzard wisens up and gets her involved as well.

Corruption of the Dragonflights

I read a very interesting article about the Dragonflights recently in terms of Warcraft Lore, and where things very well might be headed. As of now, we have already seen two of the great aspects become corrupted in their purpose.

Neltharion the Earth Warder, better known to some as Deathwing, was in charge of keeping the earth itself stable and protecting the underparts of the world, mountains, that sort of thing. In his corrupted state we see him making his home in seismically and geographically unstable regions, volcanic areas and the like, and the black flight uses lava as a weapon of battle.

Now we have Malygos the Speal Weaver, charged with safeguarding the magical flows of Azeroth, turning against his purpose and messing up the leylines of magic in the world to his own ends, possibly causing a catastrophe by letting magic destroy the world. This brought about the Nexus War to stop him and the eventual death of the first of the five aspects. What next for the Blue Dragonflight? Only time will tell.

That leaves three of the five dragonflights uncorrupted...or so we think.

As of now, both the bronze and green dragons are fighting in their own private wars. Nozdormu the Timeless, leader of the bronze, is supposedly helping to fight against the Infinite Dragonflight who are trying to upset time by attacking important events in history: Thrall's escape, the opening of the Dark Portal, the Culling of Stratholme, etc. Aside from that Ysera and her flight is fighting the Nightmare that is slowly taking over the Emerald Dream.

But what if these two are the perpetrators behind their own war?

Although it's just speculation, but someone pointed out a very interesting possibility. Chromie sends the player on a quest to the Bronze Dragonshrine which is being besieged by the Infinite Dragonflight, hoping to uncover their leader. The result is the appearance of Nozdormu himself, and although he seems to be fighting the Infinite, it's interesting that he should show up, yes? What if he's the cause of the Infinite Flight?

This is supported by what he said in the War of the Ancients trilogy where he seems to know that Malygos and maybe himself as well will eventually become corrupted and turn against their own duties: "Know that I now ask forgiveness for the wrongs I will cause you in the future, but I must be what I am destined to be... as Malygos is" (p. 712 in the combined books).

If this is true, then that would explain the origin of the Infinite Dragonflight, not as a seperate flight altogether created by some outside force (possibly by the Old Gods), but rather they are corrupted bronze dragons.

Ysera the Dreamer is ruler of the Emerald Dream, which is slowly being taken over by the Nightmare. What is causing this to take place? I have to wonder now. Already we have seen a number of green dragons going mad because of that force and becoming a threat to the world, and thus having to be dealt with accordingly. Soon enough players will be venturing in to the Emerald Dream itself to help deal with this Nightmare force, and what will they find there? Will they find an invading force trying to take over the Emerald Dream, or will the find that the enemy actually comes from within. Do important lore characters such as Malfurion Stormrage or Cenarius already know this? I guess we'll see...

Finally, we have Alexstrasza the Life Binder, who is in charge of safeguarding life itself on Azeroth. She's still very much the good aligned, motherly figure who likes to take the form of a blood elf female in skimpy clothes, doing what she can to help against both Malygos and the Scourge (and, I hope, against Yogg-Sarron the Old God). Now that Malygos is dead, she can turn her attention to both of them, but I have to say I don't like that idea much. What happens if she does become corrupted with the plague of undeath.

Think of it. The guardian of life on Azeroth now getting control of undeath from the Lich King and Yogg-Sarron and thus going on to create a flight of undead dragons, the beginning of yet another corrupted dragonflight. The plauge of undeath from that would be far, far worse than the Scourge I think.

What does this mean for me? Well, considering I'm totally hot for Alexstrasza, I don't think I like that thought very much. I would prefer that she remain the motherly guardian of life with the hot blood elf body, and not become the ultimate undead queen of undeath. That would...kind of suck, to be honest. Yeah, that would make for one hell of a raid fight, but one that would make me sad. So, hopefully, we can kill the Lich King and Yogg-Sarron and all of the other Old Gods before they can further corrupt our favorite dragons.

One can hope anyway.

The Dragonblight

It is cold here. Cold enough to freeze the herbs I gather to the point where they are unrecognizable at a glance. If I look into the sky I can see dragons flying about now and then, growing more numerous as I move further into this frigid land. The Blue Dragonflight makes their war against the rest of the world, and the other flights, the mages of the Kirin Tor, as well as us must stand against the Spellweaver as stalwartly as we must stand against the Lich King.


There are other reasons for me to aid in such a conflict. Personal reasons. I was not there to be a part of it myself. If I were involved I might well be smoking ash by now. However, any orc who has a sence of honor in his heart would still feel the burden of a debt unpaid when it comes to the Dragonqueen and the crimes of my people against her broods. In the many years of my life I have seldom come to tears about anything, but standing before Alexstraza today, even though she was in the guise of an elf, seeing her knowing smile, without a hint of anger or vehemence for what we have done to her in the past, was about enough. I would die to carry out this being's will, anything short of turning against my own Warchief.

Enough of these feelings though. There is work to be done. Our foothold in the Dragonblight has been anchored quite well. We have new allies in the brave Taunka, cousins to our Tauren brothers, we have stemmed the tide of the grotesque spiders of Azjol'Nerub, and now we must bare down upon the gates to Icecrown itself: Angrathar.

The son of Saurfang leads our forces there. It is time to storm the door to Icecrown!
